Interiors & Lifestyle Trend Predictions For 2020

Happy New Year friends! This time of year, everyone is talking about the trends for the year ahead, but today I wanted to give you my personal take on what will be hot in 2020. I really believe in doing your own thing – but it’s always good to get a little inspiration here and there. So here are some things I’m loving for the year ahead, and hot tips on what’s going to grow in popularity.

Colour + prints

Right now, I am loving the abundance of colours and print. It is beautiful and bold – like all good fashion should be! I’m a big fan of Zimmermann for their stunning florals and other patterns.

I’m also obsessed with this Voodoo Sky print from Alice McCall – how stunning is it? I actually got two runway samples in this design – pants and a top – to wear on New Year’s Day. I just love yellow and green together!

Beach to brunch

My other pick for Summer is pieces that can take you from the beach or pool, straight to a nice lunch or dinner. Think cover ups, pretty dresses, shorts, skirts or pants that match your swimwear. These always work a treat! My pick is the stunning Formentera Maxi Dress from Mode d’Vie. It’s perfect for slipping over your swimmers after the pool and heading to dinner. It’s just divine.

I also love to choose swimwear that’s a little more dressy and appropriate to go out in afterwards. My all time favourite Brazilian swim brand is Agua de Coco and their pieces are just perfect for this. They’re almost too beautiful to wear in the water (almost).

Interior Design

All about texture and lines

If you ask me, texture is timeless, but right now we’re seeing patterns on patterns and layers on layers are becoming more and more popular.

I’m predicting brass will be big this year – I could use it almost everywhere!

I’m loving the use of natural materials like natural stone, timber and glass in the home, and I’m sure these will continue to be popular throughout 2020. These finishes look amazing contrasted with gold tones as well. I’m predicting brass will be big this year – I could use it almost everywhere!

The curve trend is also big at the moment. Figurative art pieces, interesting shapes and curvy lines are all having a moment. Pieces like this are a great way to add interest if you have a space that just needs a little something.

Focus on floor plans

If you’re planning some renovations this year, take the time to really think through the design of your floor plan. It’s something that is hard to switch up later on, but makes such a difference to the functionality and value of your home – and the enjoyment factor!

My tip is to focus on how you use your home and what’s going to work for you and your family. Once you know that, you can plan everything else around it easily.

When I was recently looking for a new home of my own, finding the right floorplan was one of the hardest things. So it’s no wonder why I’ll be knocking down and building brand new.

Outdoor Styling

Taking the indoors outdoors

As for outdoor styling, I think in 2020, we will continue to see our outdoor areas as an extension of our indoor living. I’m loving the options available now for sourcing beautiful outdoor fabrics that don’t even look like they are made for outdoors! They are stunning, textural and rich-looking – but still outside-friendly, of course. My personal pick is this new Club Tropicalia collection from James Dunlop Textiles. Check out those colours!

Sydney Property

Vaucluse house price growth is leading the East and Sydney’s property growth

As for property trends, I am betting on my new suburb, Vaucluse as a suburb to watch in real estate this year. There is so much activity going on here at the moment; the older generations of the area are downsizing, making way for fresh young families to come in and build new homes or renovate current houses.

This is also creating much better value for money. You can scoop up well-sized blocks with city, water or harbour views for better prices than Bellevue Hill or Rose Bay.

I love the area for its proximity to smaller private beaches and access to gorgeous parklands. You can be close to the city, but still feel super relaxed – it’s the best of both worlds.

Be yourself

When it comes to beauty, I really think you should go with what works for your own style and personality. For me, at the moment, it’s a sun kissed look, with healthy hair and skin, minimal makeup and tidy nails.

I really believe in looking after yourself and embracing your own beauty. When you invest in taking care of your skin, hair and nails – you don’t need to do much else!

Follow the sun

If you were to ask me my ideal travel destination at any time of the year, I will always say “wherever it’s warm!”. I definitely follow the sun and Summer wherever I’m going. My number one choice is Europe in Summer. There really is nothing like it, and I think everyone needs to experience it at least once!

Conscious meals

A big trend I’ve noticed in food lately is people are more concerned about where their food is coming from and I am all for this. I’m a big believer in the paddock to plate philosophy, being conscious of where our food is sourced from and supporting small producers wherever I can.

I love James Biota and Matt Moran, these famous chefs are both in line with this philosophy.

So those are my hot picks for 2020! What trends are you loving right now? Let me know over on Instagram @styledbydanit
