Where to spend NYE 2019 in style in Sydney.

Deciding where to celebrate New Years Eve can be a tough so I’ve made it easier for you with my top picks around Sydney to ring in 2020.

To me, there’s just something magical about New Year’s Eve. It’s a time to celebrate what you achieved in the past year, let go of anything you want to leave behind you, and start the new year ahead on a high.

But I also know a lot of people who find NYE celebrations disappointing or even stressful to organise. I can totally understand this – there’s a lot at stake, and you want the night to be perfect – but it doesn’t need to be that way at all!

Picking the right event for your New Year’s Eve celebrations can make or break the night, so it can feel like a tough choice – especially when it’s down to you to organise a group of people. Luckily, if you know what amazing options are out there, you can find something perfect for you and your friends.

It all starts with knowing what you want to get out of the night. In my book, the right NYE event should tick a few boxes. It must:

Have stunning views
Offer lots of photo opportunities
And have amazing food and drinks on tap – of course!

Sound like an ideal night out? Let’s count down some of the top picks I’ve discovered for this New Year’s Eve.

Dining at Aria never disappoints, so you know whatever they put on for New Year’s Eve will be spectacular. This year will be their 20th anniversary, so it’s sure to be extra special.

Seatings for the Sunset Supper start from 5pm, so you can relax and enjoy a three course dinner, then head out to catch the fireworks and festivities after. This is perfect if you have young kids with you and want to wrap the night up earlier.

If you’re keen to try out a new vantage point of the fireworks this year, this new hot spot at the Opera house is said to be very special. You’ll be seated in the new Yallamundi Rooms on the Northern boardwalk. There will be canapés, cheeses, fresh fruits and plenty of drinks all available for 6 hours of unlimited feasting (and drinking). A dancefloor will also open up after the clock strikes midnight. Fun times guaranteed!

Have a New Year’s Eve Picnic in the Botanic Gardens

This is a beautiful option if you plan on bringing kids along to enjoy the NYE fun, just take a picnic and catch the fireworks from the Botanic Gardens. The good news is: you won’t have to settle for sparkling apple juice at this picnic either – it’s one of the few harbour-side spots where you can BYO beverages (just no glass).

This is a great pick if you want to enjoy the fireworks outdoors without the hectic atmosphere of other popular spots – they keep the numbers strictly limited so it never feels crowded.

If you really hate crowds, don’t worry, you can still enjoy New Year’s Eve – I promise! You need to check out this revolving restaurant. It’s a little further from the action, but you can watch the fireworks from above! Not to mention there’s champagne, canapes and a 6-course degustation on offer… What more do I need to say?

One of my favourite ways to spend NYE is on a boat cruise like these Sydney Harbour Cruises. You can escape the crowds on land, and still get an amazing view of all the action! There’s lots of options for organised NYE cruises you can book tickets to, but to make it extra special, you could also hire a private boat for you and your friends – or take out your own, of course!

Another personal favourite, the Opera Bar’s NYE party is a sellout every year and if you go along once you’ll see why. There’s always plenty of champagne, amazing music and LOTS of dancing. If you’re the party-type – this is for you!

Celebrate New Year’s Day Instead!

Okay, so I know this post is all about NYE ideas – but here’s another idea for you – if the NYE rush is all too much, why not do something low-key for the countdown, and have a big celebration on New Year’s Day instead?

I really enjoy doing this some years, and I have a few great recommendations on where to spend your New Year’s Day too. All of these establishments transform their dining spaces into a big club house for New Year’s Day. It’s seriously so much fun!

This is where I’ll be hanging out this year. New Year’s Day at the Bay is so much more than just another NY celebration – it’s like a mini festival! All the tickets include a 2 hour drinks package including their amazing cocktails and food, so you can’t go wrong.
